While I loved Star Wars as a kid, Empire Strikes Back strikes all the right chords with me. As the middle part of a trilogy it does everything it needs to by upping the stakes and giving our heroes a real challenge, puts them in an even more difficult position, and expands the universe we were introduced to. The score, snappier dialogue, quick pacing, and effects work that was only slightly enhanced with the Special Edition instead of a flat out replacement, still very much hold up. Empire Strikes Back surpassed everything I wanted from the Star Wars films and continues to set a very high bar for science fiction and fantasy films.
