Hyams’ first studio movie (he had two TV movie directing credits before this) and he wrote and directed. Gould and Blake are great as pretty grungy vice cops taking the law into their own hands in a seedy ‘70s Los Angeles. Sid Haig shows up as a henchman too.
The film has a great score and some excellent chase scenes, one on foot through a crowded food market and another by car involving two ambulances.
Pretty cynical, grim take on cops and crime. I enjoyed it quite a bit though it does echo The French Connection in more than a few ways.
