Viewing Notes

My wife and I didn’t arrive as early as we should have and came in to a packed house. Consequently we had to sit in the back row of the front-most seats, which wasn’t ideal, but not terrible either.

The sub-optimal seating didn’t ruin my enjoyment of the film however, which is a pretty fun murder mystery in the vein of the Thin Man or Pink Panther series with a Woody Allen bent. My main issue with the film was that the female lead, Barri, played by Sophia Takal, was so annoying at times that I actively disliked her. I know she was supposed to be this sort of flighty, zany person but it felt like it needed to be dialed down at times.

That aside, this is a pretty fun film and felt like the perfect movie for the Denver Film Festival crowd there to see it.

Strangely, both of the films we watched at DFF this night had a You’re Next alumnus in them. In this case it was a quick, one second cameo by Larry Fessenden as a poker-playing buddy. NYC indies must be contractually obligated to put Fessenden in their movies or something.

The director and leads were on hand for a Q&A afterwards.
