Viewing Notes

A troubling movie for me. I think it was well done for the most part but so obviously presented it’s protagonist as a one-dimensional American hero archetype that it was difficult to relate to the character. It also glossed over the PTSD stuff and then only touches on the result of that as a sort of epilogue, largely refusing to confront the terrible price exacted by the war on our own troops.

It also presented nearly all of the Iraqi people as enemies, including women and children, a cardboard one-dimensional portrait that just didn’t feel real.
