Viewing Notes
I missed most of this during The Last Drive-In 24 hour marathon on Saturday so I was happy to see that Shudder had added each one as its own episode to stream. Won’t replace seeing it as part of the marathon but I was sad I missed this movie in particular. I’ve been meaning to revisit this for a long time since I hadn’t seen it since the 1980s, when I originally watched it on VHS.
I love grittier NYC-style independents made in the ‘70s and ‘80s. They have a style so opposite West coast stuff and typically capture a New York City that doesn’t exist any longer.
I know I’ve seen Hennenlotter’s BRAIN DAMAGE and FRANKENHOOKER, and possibly BASKET CASE 2, but I think I’m going to have to visit/revisit his films. I’m especially interested in his two newer docs (one on Hershell Gordon Lewis and the other on Mike Diana).
