Overview

Viewing Notes
Fun to revisit this Zhang Yimou classic. You can see shades of SHADOW here (no pun intended), 16 years prior. I really need to watch more of his films.
I completely forgot that Donnie Yen is in this. His role is significant but small. Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung are the highlights. Their complex relationship to each other and how they express that throughout the different versions of the story are enthralling. I also love Ziyi Zhang’s fierce, revenge-seeking performance.
