Viewing Notes
This aspires to be a female-driven JOHN WICK but never reaches the same heights. The sets are gorgeously built, lit and shot, but almost completely disconnected from any real sense of place. As backdrops for action set pieces they’re great though.
Some of the action scenes are pretty fun but overall rely too heavily on slow motion and CGI enhancements, which contributed to the movie feeling like it was dragging on and just overly long in general. I did LOVE the kidnap/extortionist gang’s great classic monster masks and the “vampire” death scene playing out exactly as you would hope it would!
I would love to see Karen Gillan continue to do more action films as I think she has a knack for it and will continue to get better over time.
Overall, a pretty impressive outing from the director of BIG BAD WOLVES, considering it’s reported 30 million dollar budget.
