Viewing Notes
Pretty average. The action scenes and stunt work are well done and entertaining. Franco’s role feels too forced and projected, which makes the comedy bits more eye rolling than entertaining. But there are some fun bits.
Underneath everything else is a barely thought out subtext focused on gentrification and otherness. It just kind of exists without much commentary and so lacks any real depth or impact.
I’d rate this a five but the great use of Scott Adkins in a supporting role that’s both humorous and the best action sequence in the film; the appropriate use of Body Count by Ice-T and crew; and the final scenes with Snoop Dog; bumps it up a star.
