Viewing Notes

I love, love, love weird Hong Kong fantasy films and this one delivers a great blend of wacky comedy, outlandish action scenes and fun sets. Most of the comedy is around the arranged marriage between a woman from the all-female Taoist sect who is cursed to become the devil if she isn’t married and deflowered by her 18th birthday; and a goofy male Taoist disciple who is reluctant to marry or deflower her. Add in the head priests and their attendant supernatural powers from each sect, and the two lover’s comedy sidekick attendants and you have a traveling party of wackiness.

This was a perfect movie to follow the confusing has hell HEAVEN & HELL because it really woke me up and gave me my second wind. Stanley Fung plays the male Taoist priest. This is a lot of fun and I’d love to own a Blu-ray of this. From the director of THE SWORD STAINED WITH ROYAL BLOOD, which I think Error 4444 is supposed to be releasing this year?
