Viewing Notes

I finally cracked open the deluxe Synapse 4K release of this and decided to watch the American cut of this called UNSANE, which is a full 10 minutes shorter. I’m happy I did so that I never have to watch this butchered version ever again. The people who demanded these edits should be punched in the face. The two major cuts that drastically lower the quality of the film are the amazing crane shots encircling the brutalist apartment building, which is almost entirely removed; and the graphic axe murder of Jane, Peter Neal’s fiancé, which is almost entirely cut as well. So fucking stupid.

It’s cool that they included this with both the original jarring sound edits and a smoothed out audio version. I decided to go with the full experience of the jarring audio cuts and can confirm that they are jarring.

Now I’m really looking forward to watching the full uncut version in 4K again so I can wash the taste of this subpar butchery out of my mouth.
