Viewing Notes

It’s been a while since I’ve seen this. I forgot just how epic a movie it is! Richard Burton is great as Major Smith, the officer in charge of the operation. He’s cool as ice, tough as nails, and the only one holding all the cards.

One of the things I love about his movie is that it’s just one long series of situations that Burton and Eastwood have to extricate themselves from. Other films might have a few set piece scenes with a lot of cutaways and allusions to how they got from point A to point B. Where Eagles Dare shows you every little bit of the operation from start to end and it’s awesome all the way through.
