Viewing Notes

The second installment in the Sabata films but now with Yul Brynner in the titular role (replacing Lee Van Cleef). Film starts great w/Sabata showcasing his unbelievable marksmanship. But soon after the film slides down a hole of morass. Brynner is good throughout but the story is flat and the payoff is weak esp. after the explosive first film. Struggle to stay interested in this. Gone are the gadgets and gimmicks that made the previous film fun. Unfortunate. At least the follow up film with Van Cleef back makes up for this one. I don’t blame Brynner b/c this wasn’t intended as a Sabata film but shoehorned into the series based on its popularity. Ah well.
