Viewing Notes

Fairly certain I saw pieces of this as a child b/c those Airport movies were always on TV. But didn’t recall much of this one. Been wanting to hit all these Airport movies after my podcast appearance on Top5Film. Wish I could say that this has aged well but it hasn’t. I really like the picture in picture and split screen framing throughout the movie but that’s about it.

It’s almost as if this cast was just mailing it in. Even Dean Martin and George Kennedy appear as though they wish they were somewhere else. Jacqueline Bisset is beautiful but doesn’t have much to do. Generally this is a chore to get through esp. at 2:17 runtime. I suppose the reception for this was big at the time, the dawn of the disaster film decade, but it just does not hold up. None of the drama subplots are interesting and even the actual threat on the plane doesn’t ring convincing as it unfolds.

Still worth viewing or revisiting but pretty disappointing as a compelling disaster film. I am looking forward to the next film, which will be a part of my childhood movie project.
