Overview

Matt, a young glaciologist, soars across the vast, silent, icebound immensities of the South Pole as he recalls his love affair with Lisa. They meet at a mobbed rock concert in a vast music hall - London’s Brixton Academy. They are in bed at night’s end. Together, over a period of several months, they pursue a mutual sexual passion whose inevitable stages unfold in counterpoint to nine live-concert songs.

Viewing Notes

Was inspired to revisit after recently logging this from the first time I viewed (and reading some the notes of others). Knowing what to expect I enjoyed this more on the second go-round. The explicit sex works within the short story and counterbalances the concert scenes; essentially the two components that have brought this couple together and kept them together for the summer.

Also wanted to check out the extras (interviews) on the DVD not available on streaming when I first viewed the movie. Really interesting to hear Winterbottom and the two leads discuss the movie and reactions. Brave undertaking for all parties.
