Viewing Notes

Was glad I caught this before it expired in the final hours. Wanted to check it out after having enjoyed Eiji Uchida’s Greatful Dead at Fantastic Fest. This is one of those movies that I feel couldn’t or wouldn’t be made in the US even as an independent. It’s offbeat and filled with things inherently Japanese. The story kept me engaged despite my dislike of Jyonmyon Pe as the lead. I thought the movie fell off when a certain character leaves the story (and I was secretly hoping it would turn into the journey of that character instead). I was sad but the movie recovers in the final third with the appearance of another amazing character.

I really wish I had seen this before FF2013 so I could have asked Uchida where the music came from (original or band) because I really want that last song. It’s awesome. Not for everyone but def for people with similar taste as mine.
