Viewing Notes

Wow, even more absurd than I imagined. Actually I didn’t imagine it would be this absurd but holy hell this is nuts. In fact I’m giving this the batshit tag for that final sequence. What I love the most is that Besson retains much of his stylish sensibilities within this purely science fiction actioner. Many of the flourishes have his hand all over them so much so that if I didn’t know he was involved I would have suspected this was his work.

The sound/music cues, the camera angles, the character movements are all Besson. Scarlett Johansson works this ridiculous material so well you want to believe this is how it would go down. Didn’t know that Choi Min-sik was in this movie so that was a pleasant surprise. I also love that these Koreans are holed up in Taipei.

Another fine performance by Morgan Freeman as Morgan Freeman.
