Viewing Notes

My last film for Noir City Chicago 6 at MBT. A real treat to see this on the big screen in 35mm. Kinda amazing that this was Mifune’s first film with Kurosawa; he’s so damn good. Can’t say enough about Shimura. Both of them excel here as two desperate souls finding a bond between their personal demons. Career defining team-up that would only be the beginning of many memorable and classic collaborations.

Sad to have missed Stray Dog on this night but thankful for at least seeing this film. Overall another outstanding Noir City Film Festival in Chicago.
