Viewing Notes

Supreme Sword Mansion is my everything.

It’s great to see a Shaw flick on El Rey that isn’t dubbed. Not sure if that slipped through the cracks or this film was never dubbed. Hard to believe the latter given the cast and crew on this one. Totally my kind of Shaw Production.

Basically the best swordsman (Derek Yee) in the “swordplay world” no longer wants the fame so he tries to live among the casuals. Of course there are bad dudes after him because to take out the best means instant fame and probable fortune. He is known as the Third Master and eventually finds a home and girlfriend. Trouble still follow him and the family.

Lots of great sword action but this is more of a drama with a side romance. A truly great story with a bevy of cool characters that show up for a small scene or two. Lo Lieh and Ti Lung show up way late into the movie for one scene. Ling Yun is also great as the healer / Yen Shih-San. Even David Chiang has an unexpected but great role.

Easily one of the better Shaw movies I’ve seen in a while.
