Viewing Notes

The opening night movie for BCHFF 2015! Super stoked for this one.

Like I tweeted, this is the kind of movie you want to watch with your friends every Halloween. Super fun in that way. Initially I thought this movie would be my new annual Halloween viewing but after the first 5 shorts this anthology begins to sag in the middle swinging up by the end.

Most of the shorts are pretty good to great with a couple of so-so in between. Lucky McKee’s is surprisingly lackluster as he completely re-imagines Hansel & Gretyl. I love this ambition to do something different here but it just doesn’t stick the landing.

I also enjoy all the cameos however it becomes distracting. Maybe that’s just on the first viewing b/c it’s all like, “oh there’s so & so and oh look he’s in this and oh she’s here too… on and on and on.” Second viewing would alleviate those surprises. Also it’s clear this is a connected world and yet only loosely. That aspect could’ve been tighter.

Still quite enjoyable and one I’d love to watch with my friends. Really appreciate what they accomplished here to nail down the spirit and themes of Halloween.

Sounds like a movie night movie if only I still lived in Illinois…
