Overview

Flying Swords of Dragon Gate picks up three years after the infamous Dragon Inn was burnt down in the desert when its innkeeper Jade vanished. A new gang of marauders had taken over - innkeepers by day and treasure hunters by night. The inn is the rumoured location of a lost city buried under the desert, and its hidden treasure would only be revealed by a gigantic storm every 60 years. The gang used the inn as a front to locate the lost treasure.

Viewing Notes

Solid, super fun wuxia flick from Tsui Hark. Totally the kind of movie in his wheelhouse. High fantasy and adventure with a little of everything thrown into the crockpot set on a slow simmer.

I like that he made a sequel to Dragon Inn (not that it needed one) with an all new cast. Zhou Xun is in the Brigitte Lin role and is very capable down to her androgynous appearance. Cool to see Gordon Liu in a small role. Became an instant fan of Kwai Lun-Mei who has the hands down best look and character.

Watched all the behind the scenes footage and interviews. What’s so great about these is seeing the actors doing the stunts, like crazy stunts, that I don’t think you’d see in Hollywood. The women here are especially impressive as they have some intricate wire work to perform.
