Viewing Notes

Figured I’d better see this now since all the new movies release tonight. Giving this a thin 7/10 because I enjoyed the movie and continued adventures of Lisbeth. That said, this is entirely a paint-by-numbers flick that feels like it was created by a list of action thriller checkboxes of story beats. Like nothing in this movie is a surprise or unexpected. If you would’ve given me the basic character pieces and macguffin I could’ve told you the plot.

It’s amazing, really. Like as soon as Lisbeth says “my sister died a few years ago” my first thought is “oh this is gonna be a sister versus sister thing, huh?” As soon as the Lakeith gets hacked and hops a plane to Sweden I’m thinking “oh so he’s gonna be an ally huh?” It’s the entire movie doing everything you’ve seen before including the dumb tropes like a world class hacker not taking the mobile phone away from the kid. Geebus is that dumb. Also super dumb to see a $400K Lambo in winter. bc it’s super normal to see high end sports cars in winter. Eesh

I do like the weird cello score and the drab, cold look of everything. Solid acting across the board and Claire Foy is very good as Lisbeth. Mostly shot well except for the fight scenes to make the non-skilled actors look like they can really fight. Hate that.

I guess I was amused by the whole thing because I knew how it would play out and truthfully we all know Lisbeth is never gonna be in danger or killed. It’s fun when she gets the upper hand or figures a way out even when it’s expected.
