Viewing Notes

RAN was a French production. A bunch of filmmakers met Kurosawa at Cannes where he told them he couldn’t make films in Japan bc he had no financial support. So these guys agreed to work with him to get the film made. In this documentary they discuss the film RAN and Kurosawa’s filmmaking during the production. Also features his daughter Kazuko and script editor Teruyo Nogami.

Biggest takeaway: every night during all the external shoots, he held a party w/cast and crew.

Oh also the scene with Kaede (both of her most memorable scenes) what decisions were made were pretty great.
