Viewing Notes

Haven’t done a Gofobo in a long time!! Never fails to surprise me when ppl show up to a free advance screening at the time of the posted screening when it clearly states to show up early. These dipshits come into the already capacity theater and walk up the stairs thinking there’s gonna be a seat. And they didn’t start the movie until 30 minutes after the 7pm posted time.

Anyways, this movie is fucking great. So so so good. I was in tears most of the time bc of how goddamn funny it is. It’s also very sweet and sharp in its coming-of-age / happens all in one night framing. In fact, its so good we had some walkouts during a rather explicit scene, which made me laugh (old white women).

I can see how this movie would resonate with a younger crowd (Millennials / Gen Y / Gen Z) bc this is modern HS and not exactly like Gen X or earlier HS. But I could still relate, esp. that big party at a popular kid’s house. This film had me recalling “senior skip day” and a big party we had we had at the quarterback’s home when his parents were out of town. TBH this is one of the few movies that had me missing HS.

I really hope Olivia Wilde continues to direct. She did a killer job with this movie. Was glad to hear some really loud laughing during this screening. Kept wondering if the racist older guy sitting next me was enjoying this film. I definitely did not hold back my laughs.

Definitely on my top 10 of the year so far.
