Overview

Once upon a time… in the far away kingdom of Dor… lived a brave and virtuous mouse with comically oversized ears who dreamt of becoming a knight. Banished from his home for having such lofty ambitions, Despereaux sets off on an amazing adventure with his good-hearted rat friend Roscuro, who leads him, at long last, on a very noble quest to rescue an endangered princess and save an entire kingdom from darkness.

Viewing Notes

This was a random grab off the Blu-ray shelf on the kid’s floor. Was intrigued by the story + cast. Animation is a little dated but not bad, better than most.

This is a weird and dark “family” film. The rats who live in the dungeon cellar actually eat people. This is why people are afraid of rats, I guess. The mouse is banished to the dungeon cellar bc he spoke to a human which is forbidden. That human is the princess. So now the mouse must make due in the dungeon w/the rats who hate him. Shit happens and he has to rescue the princess, which means climbing out of the dungeon. Oh there’s the king’s chef who can conjure (by making a soup) a walking / talking man made of vegetables.

Weird flick. I give it a half star bump for being so weird and dark.
