Overview

Follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species, thought to be mere myths, rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Watching this bc I need to return the Blu to my library by tomorrow. Not sure why I requested this bc I’m not all that excited about revisiting this movie. Maybe I’ll enjoy it more viewing it at home w/the subtitles.

The character betrayal of Emma is my biggest issue. Just doesn’t make sense for Emma to do a complete heel turn after the loss of her son.

I’d really like to know how Monarch is funded. The Argo is at least a billion dollar craft. Add on all the other Osprey craft and it’s really expensive.

Basically just laughing at all the dialogue. So bad.

As dopey as this movie is (mostly the characters, story and dialogue) there’s lots I like a lot. Bear McCreary’s score is excellent and I love the monster designs. First time I noticed that Mothra flare up when Godzilla pulsates towards Ghidorah. Even makes the Mothra squeal. Not sure how I missed that in theater. Or maybe I saw it and forgot.

I’d like a edited version where most of the dialogue and non-monster stuff is removed. Kinda like what was done w/those SW Prequel edits floating around. Drop this flick down to a breezy 90 minutes and it would be a gas. Just too clunky and dumb between battles.

Someday I’ll have to pick this up so I can listen to Dougherty’s commentary. Extras are kinda weak overall but at least one deleted scene (of only 2) explains the first teaser trailer w/Maddie in the radio room.
