Viewing Notes

For Space Station Europa, DKUTV programmed Planet of the Vampires and this documentary since it’s spooky month. Hadn’t seen this doc so I flipped on the broadcast via Facebook.

For anyone really familiar with this material there’s not gonna be much to glean as it’s very surface level having to touch different countries and styles. However, it does dive into a few films and the interviews are nice. Never would’ve expected to hear director Harry Kümel talk at length about Daughters of Darkness.

Maybe the only slip is Gatiss referring to Suspiria as giallo. I’ll let it slide bc I’m sure he didn’t write the script and maybe doesn’t know.

For anyone new to Eurohorror this would make a nice primer. Of all the films discussed only one I had not seen yet have owned it on dvd for 10 years. If it’s not packed already I may throw it on for 31 Days of Horror.

Just occurred to me that if I had access to this doc I’d make a list of all the films covered. It’d be a good intro to Eurohorror for anyone new to it.
