Viewing Notes

Shockingly I have never seen any of the BLOODFIST movies. They along with many other Don The Dragon Wilson movies used to be staples on cable and Cinemax thru the 90s. My cheesy action fan buddy Ed Travis started his watch thru of the BLOODFIST movies a few days ago and it’s been fun to read his reactions. Decided I’d give one a go since they are blindspots in my viewing. Holy crap did I not know there is a shit ton of Don The Dragon flicks on Prime right now! I’d love to watch them all. Sigh

Anyways this film is pretty much a ripoff of BLOODSPORT, which was released in the previous year. Has many similar plot beats yet also puts a few different spins on the story. Rather amusing they cast Billy Blanks but don’t give him any lines; he just fights in the tournament. I like Don The Dragon as the vulnerable hero seeking justice for his murdered brother. The entire romance side plot is humorous in that he’s so hellbent on vengeance when he goes to the Philippines but “oh hey baby I love you” seems silly.

Overall a fun familiar movie.

I’ve got a bunch of Wilson’s movies in my queue, along with Cynthia Rothrock. Both have a ton on Amazon Prime. So many things to watch and so little time.

Someday we’ll have to do a 90s direct to video action movie night.
