Overview

Welcome to Sin City. This town beckons to the tough, the corrupt, the brokenhearted. Some call it dark… Hard-boiled. Then there are those who call it home — Crooked cops, sexy dames, desperate vigilantes. Some are seeking revenge, others lust after redemption, and then there are those hoping for a little of both. A universe of unlikely and reluctant heroes still trying to do the right thing in a city that refuses to care.

Viewing Notes

Still not sure if this is a great or v good movie but it’s certainly an entertaining movie and a fascinating one to watch knowing what it’s attempting to do. Plus everyone knows the assignment and is fully committed to this batshit premise, which is fun to see. I had forgotten half of the actors featured so it was full of surprises. Devon Aoki is so perfect despite being typecast; wish she would return to acting in genre films.

Bruce Willis is really good here as is Benicio del Toro, who just chews up those scenes. However, it’s Mickey Rourke who takes the MVP in a role he was born to play. So damn perfect as Marv. In a just world he would’ve won all the awards for that performance or at least been nominated. Simply captivating. Kudos to casting bc this is spot on matching these actors to the graphic novels.

I viewed the theatrical cut but now I wanna see the uncut version which is 20 minutes longer. The Blu doesn’t look all that great so this would be one to have on UHD. Kinda made for that format.

RIP Brittany Murphy
RIP Michael Clarke Duncan
RIP Rutger Hauer
