Viewing Notes

Crossed off another Godzilla film seen on the big screen. Gonna make a list of all the films I’ve seen big in hopes that I’ll see them all eventually in theater. Not sure how many I have left to see big.

Anyways, it was nice to see this one bc it features Mothra so prominently including her babies. Sadly this presentation wasn’t an update restoration or new scan. Looked like my DVD/Blu projected. All those Sony releases look bad esp now. A shame Toho isn’t making them available outside of Japan. AMC Orchard did their usual fuckery and started the program before the listed showtime. They’ve done this before but a lot of ppl arrived well into the movie incl. a group of dipshits that took their seats 40 minutes into the movie… so they got to see all of 50 minutes of it. Dumb

For the movie, the Suit and miniature work is top notch. Great composite when Godzilla appears in Tokyo Bay with Odaiba behind him. I’m Rick Dalton pointing at the screen “that’s Odaiba! I been there!” Weird choice to minimize Yumiko Shaku’s role after the previous film. Wonder if that was her decision or intentional. Def missed her and her brief scenes made me wish she wasn’t in the movie at all if that’s the disrespect they were gonna do.

Sad they abandoned this entire storyline for what became Final Wars in the following year. Would’ve been neat to see the twin Mothra babies cocoon and battle together with different colored wings or some shit.
