Viewing Notes

First time watch! Not sure how I missed this back in 2007 when I saw everything like this at the theater unless it was only one week and I was on vacation or something. Only grossed $15million so maybe it didn’t get a second week? That’s terrible on $80m budget (not sure where that $80m went bc this doesn’t look it). There’s gotta be a story around this; two A-list actors in Kidman and Craig, coming off Casino Royale no less, in a sci-fi thriller should be money in the bank. What happened?

Well I didn’t see it then so something went wrong. And it’s a solid thriller, too. Very fascinating to view after the coronavirus pandemic along with the conspiracy theorists. As a remake it holds up but it’s not better than the original or the ‘78 film. The action thriller third act loses me a bit but I like all the mystery and tension that builds until that act. Nicole is great and looks incredible but she’s not all that convincing trying to act like a pod person plus she’d look way more haggard having not slept. Instead she looks fucking amazing thru the entire runtime. Also that pajama outfit in the opening scene *wow*

The NOES house is an amusing in-joke. At first I didn’t understand why but the whole “don’t fall asleep” thing made it stick. Probably the main negative is how this movie ends compared to the original and ‘78 film.
