Viewing Notes

Totally different story than the previous film, which I love. Bc of that this sequel was disappointing. Instead of the fun adventure and quest and siege and colorful characters, this movie is more in line with other epic war films featuring huge armies on the battlefield with a ragtag squad trying to survive and still complete the mission. Which is all fine but without the adventure this plays like every other movie doing the same Big Battle sequences. It’s not all that interesting.

Since we already know hotheaded Shin from the first movie I guess they felt there was no need for character development even tho he’s surrounded by all new characters. New character Kyoukai gets her moment and backstory but that’s it. The Owl girl is totally sidelined which was a dumb decision. Just a lot of questionable choices for this follow up that make it a lot less fun and not nearly as enjoyable. I still give it some props for staging the battles and action but again it’s nothing special. It’s like everything that made the first film entertaining they removed for the sequel and replaced with a dull battlefield story.
