Viewing Notes

A murder mystery wrapped around a romantic comedy or the other way around. Either way it’s delightful yet silly and schmaltzy, like many rom-coms. Recognized Aoi Miyazaki right away. Cannot believe she turned 38 when this movie was released last year. I only know her work from 20 years ago when she was always the girl next door teenager type. Glad she’s still working in front of the camera in addition to the voice work she’s been doing.

Ryo Yoshizawa I didn’t recognize until he has a bit of a makeover in the first part of the movie. He’s the young emperor from the KINGDOM series. Once I realized that I couldn’t stop viewing him as that emperor character. But he’s really good here, too. He and Aoi are the couple that investigate the murder that happens on the cruise liner.

The supporting cast is fun with actors like Rinko Kikuchi portraying a snobby film producer. This would be a fun movie to watch with Yumi but I’m sure she’d think it’s pretty dumb and goofy (it is) but entertaining.
