Viewing Notes

The Mouse underwent a bit of a revival in the 1990s, cranking out animated musical hit after hit. Despite being 14 and determined to be a macho-macho man when THE LION KING came out, I loved it, though bashedly at the time.

It’s a smart script and has a stellar soundtrack and vocal cast to boot. And though it passes a peaceful message of harmony in nature, I love that it still brooks no nonsense when it comes to the fact that lions are carnivores and still eat meaty-type things.

Unfortunately Disney has abandoned the musical animated film and it feels like the world is more bleak because of it. THE LION KING remains in my mind the pinnacle of that era, what Disney has abandoned in favor of CG cars making left turns, and what could maybe be someday again.
