Viewing Notes

Glad there was a 10PM screening of this but didn’t realize how challenging it would be to get to Muvico due to the flooded streets. Basically River Rd south from Higgins was closed. Had to drive past through at least a foot of standing water up to Cumberland and take i-90 to i-190 to finally arrive at Muvico. Crazy!

Surprisingly a decent amount of people showed up for the screening. Was probably more excited than I should be for a Robert Zombie film based on his most recent output. And I generally enjoyed this slow burn film that is a throwback to those slow burn satanic/supernatural films from the mid to late 70s. Also maybe the least Robert Zombie film of his catalog, which is a good thing.

Visually it feels like a period film but it’s not. Has the proper the tone and evokes plenty of mystery and creepiness. I have a feeling this will be a hard sell to mainstream audiences expecting something faster and flashier. But I like what I saw and will definitely watch this again. I hope someone will please give Sherri Moon a sandwich. Just wish that Barbara Crampton got more than a few seconds of screen time.
