Viewing Notes

Trepidation.

That’s what best describes my, and most horror fans’, feelings when heading in to a new Rob Zombie film. I enjoyed the first couple, but ending up with the HALLOWEEN films, especially part 2, is kind of scary.

This is makes me pretty happy. He is still showing signs of growth as a filmmaker and taking things in a much better direction. He’s still kind of pigeon-holed in the poor man’s Tarantino in my mind by sticking with more homage than originality, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

His art direction is aces, as usual, and nice to see that Sherri Moon Zombie has grown as well. Her acting, while not award worthy, is still getting better. Watch HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES again just too see how far she’s come from Baby. Shudder.

Zombie has great attention to some haunting imagery and a head-scratching ending that made me appreciate the film even more than I already had. I rented this because of my skepticism, but will definitely be buying so I can revisit more throughout the years.

What’s up with Zombie’s fetish for asymmetrical, handmade looking masks and oversized tattered sweaters?
