Viewing Notes

Figured I should watch my DVD since it was added to the Fantastic Fest line-up and I could skip it esp. if it’s not very good. But it’s actually a fun adventure with another twist on the Monkey King legend. Unfortunately it does not sustain the great momentum and setup in the first half ending on with a goofy CG riddled finale.

Viewing just the opening sequence which features a great setpiece in the water village I thought this would be great to see on the big screen. That feeling lessened by the second half. Shu Qi is adorable as a lovelorn demon hunter. I’d say this is worth seeing just for her.
