Viewing Notes

Birthday week so spending more time with my favorites and in this case it’s a favorite actor: Shu Qi. Been wanting to revisit this movie so that was a good excuse. Still mixed positive overall. Some fun setpieces but also sequences that really drag including the long opening act with the demon fish in the village.

Also when our protagonist meets up with the trapped Monkey King, it really kills the momentum. My other annoyance is this dude rejecting Duan (Shu Qi) despite all her advances. Like seriously. I love that she made movies like this while also being one of the highest paid actresses in HK and covergirl model. She doesn’t mind getting all dirty and physical.
