Viewing Notes

As much as I’ve come to appreciate Chen Kuan-Tai I think I’m more a fan of older Kuan-Tai as he is here. Still a super badass but more seasoned. Also have the belief that Johnny Wang Lung-Wei is one of the best character actors in the Shaw stable. He’s often the same kind of character but shows up in everyone including this. Here he’s the leader of the “Three Evil Masters” with a deadly ponytail.

However, this is not really a Kuan-Tai movie despite being top billed. This is all Yuen Tak as the up and coming pupil secretly trained by Kuan-Tai. Yuen Tak has to avenge him as well as his original master and his school which gets taken over by the Three Evil Masters (Johnny Wang, Chui Fat, and Yuen Fai).

This is a better than average flick that is ideal for “I Must My Master” since that’s the entire thrust of the central plot. I do question how good Yuen Tak could be in a short time to face the Three Evil Masters but still very entertaining with some excellent fight sequences.
