Viewing Notes

Post-war George Stevens, when his films got darker. One of the best films of the 1950’s.
I learned that this film was completed in early 1950, but Paramount held back the release until 1951 so that it wouldn’t compete for Oscars with its other prestige release, Sunset Boulevard.
Terrific performances from Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, and Shelley Winters.
