A really impressive, well-made first feature from Terrence Malick, based loosely on the Starkweather-Fugate murder spree in the 1950s. It has some of Malick’s trademark style: a dreamlike quality, beautiful camerawork, voice-over narration. Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek are excellent. And the reclusive Malick himself has a small role.
