Viewing Notes

A little seen film, but very affecting and heartbreaking.  Even though it’s a Canadian production, it has a kinship to the British kitchen sink dramas of the early 60’s.

This was Robert Shaw’s first lead role and he’s very good, playing a likable loser type who can’t hold onto a job because of naive and unrealistic expectations.  Mary Ure (Shaw’s real-life wife at the time) is also really good.  Interesting location filming in Montreal.
