Viewing Notes
One of my favorite films of the 1970s. Funny and tragic at the same time. A great road movie with the icy cold eastern seaboard as the backdrop.
Jack Nicholson is at the top of his game (“I AM the motherfuckin’ shore patrol, motherfucker!”). I think Hal Ashby is one of the best and most underrated directors ever, whose career was unfortunately way too short. He brings compassion and humanity to all his characters.
Gilda Radner and Nancy Allen show up in brief roles.
