Set during the period of growing influence of the Indian independence movement in the British Raj, the story begins with the arrival in India of a British woman, Miss Adela Quested, who is joining her fiancĂ©, a city magistrate named Ronny Heaslop. She and Ronny’s mother, Mrs. Moore, befriend an Indian doctor, Aziz H. Ahmed.

I haven’t seen this since it first came out. I thought it was very good back then and it’s still an impressive film adaptation. This was David Lean’s first film after a 14-year gap and his best film since LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. It truly looks and feels like a classic Lean epic.
