One of my all-time favorite movies. I’ve probably seen it about 20 times. I have the DVD, but whenever it pops up on TCM, I can’t help watching it again.
Obviously, it’s best known for the car chase, which is still great after all these years. But aside from the car chase, it’s just a terrific crime film: gritty, suspenseful, violent.
Steve McQueen is as cool as it gets. Robert Vaughn is great as a self-serving politician/villain, Jacqueline Bisset is drop dead gorgeous, and Robert Duvall has a small role as a cab driver. Cool jazzy score from Lalo Schifrin, and San Francisco looks amazing.
