Viewing Notes

I haven’t watched this since it first came out. A nice revisit since I’ve grown to love Hal Ashby’s films over the years.

It’s a stinging commentary on how society can be completely fooled by an idiot (anyone we know?). It’s a little slow moving because basically it’s a one-joke movie that goes on for over two hours.

This was Peter Sellers’ last great role and he is magnificent. The outtakes over the closing credits are hilarious, although Sellers was reportedly unhappy that they were included and thought they might have cost him the Oscar since it showed him breaking character.
