Viewing Notes

A little seen, but highly worthwhile film noir.  Instead of a femme fatale, Van Heflin is a homme fatale, a creepy, manipulative cop. Evelyn Keyes’ performance is remarkable, going from fearful housewife to illicit lover to an accomplice to murder to pregnant wife.

Noteworthy for the uncredited talent behind-the-scenes: Dalton Trumbo wrote the screenplay and John Huston was a co-producer along with Sam Spiegel (who uses the pseudonym S. P. Eagle).
