My number one nostalgia watch. This was my favorite film as a kid growing up and I still love revisiting it over the years.
This is a “revisionist” western, taking the conventions of the classic western, then flipping them on their heads. The outlaws here are trying to continue with their old ways while the world around them is changing.
There’s such great chemistry between Newman and Redford. They’re the definition of movie star charisma. Katherine Ross was my boyhood crush and she’s drop dead gorgeous here. I also love the beautiful cinematography by Conrad Hall.
