When you think of Ingmar Bergman films, you don’t really think of Elliott Gould.
This was Bergman’s first English language film and it’s kind of a forgotten film. Not too surprising. Coming right after SHAME and THE PASSION OF ANNA, and right before CRIES AND WHISPERS and SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE, it simply doesn’t measure up to those great films. It’s not bad, but it verges on melodrama towards the end.
Bibi Andersson, though, is terrific as usual.
