Viewing Notes

This was showing on the tv in my hotel room and I switched it on thinking I’d only watch a little bit (I’ve seen it a dozen times before). I sat through all three-and-a-half hours.

A cinematic masterpiece. Every freaking scene in this film is compelling. I can’t say enough good things about it: the story, the acting, the cinematography, the production design, etc., etc. Coppola had a run of films in the 1970’s that is unmatched.

I usually watch this in tandem with GODFATHER 1. I look at G1 as a straight forward gangster film, whereas G2 is epic in its scope: a family drama spanning generations, the rise of organized crime in America, political corruption, etc.

As perfect a film as there is.
