Middle-aged Jem sets out from his suburban home on a journey into the woods, where he reconnects with his estranged hermit brother Ray. Bonded by a mysterious, complicated past, the men share a fraught, if occasionally tender relationship—one that was forever altered by shattering events decades earlier.

Daniel Day-Lewis’ first film since PHANTOM THREAD in 2017. This dude needs to make more movies. Watching him again is just a reminder of how freaking good he is. He delivers a couple of long monologues that are riveting.
The film itself is a little disappointing, kind of slow and ponderous. Ronan Day-Lewis does have a good visual sense, and there’s an apocalyptic-like hailstorm near the end that sort of reminded me of the rain of frogs in MAGNOLIA.
